IPC 354 in BNS: Outraging Modesty is Now Section 74

IPC Section 354 and its cluster of related offences (354A sexual harassment, 354B disrobing, 354C voyeurism, 354D stalking) were added to the IPC in 2013. All four carried over into the BNS with new numbers, keeping the same order and logic.

The full 354-series map

IPC 354 (outraging modesty) is BNS 74. IPC 354A (sexual harassment) is BNS 75. IPC 354B (assault with intent to disrobe) is BNS 76. IPC 354C (voyeurism) is BNS 77. IPC 354D (stalking) is BNS 78. The punishment ranges in each carry over largely unchanged — always confirm the exact term and fine against the bare act for the specific sub-clause involved.

Why this cluster matters in drafting

Complaints involving offences against women frequently cite more than one section from this cluster together — for example stalking alongside outraging modesty. When converting an old FIR, map every section in the cluster individually rather than assuming a single offset applies to all of them, since the renumbering is not sequential.
